How to remove crayon and marker pen from walls

As much as you may want to encourage a budding little Michelangelo, if their artistic efforts have strayed from paper to your beautiful paint work then you aren’t going to be quite so pleased.

However, all is not lost and this doesn’t mean you have to start repainting the wall. In fact, with the right know-how it can actually be a fairly simple cleaning job.

Here are a couple of quick and effective techniques to remove crayon and marker pen off your walls:

Need to remove crayon?

The first thing to try to remove crayon is fairly simple to do. Note that with all types of wall cleaning, paints with a higher sheen finish will be easier to wipe down and not leave potential signs, in comparison to more matt finishes.

1. Use a hair dryer to heat and soften the crayon on the wall.
2. Carefully wipe away with a damp cloth.
3. Dry the wall.

If this doesn’t work then try the following:

1. Use a blunt knife and carefully remove any excess crayon from the wall.
2. Buy a Mr Clean Magic Eraser and rub the wall carefully.
3. Dry the wall.

Removing marker pen?

If the pen is washable then a wet paper towel should remove the mark easily. If not follow these steps:

1. Try a Mr Clean Magic Eraser.
2. If that doesn’t work spray the stain with hairspray
3. Rub carefully with a paper towel or rag
4. If it appears to be working repeat, but be careful not to remove the paint
5. If still there coat it with plain white toothpaste, wait 10 mins and the wipe clean.
