Fit for a Prince
Rachel is known for her stunning clothing for babies and children, and her famous Heritage collection has even found Royal favour. Prince George sported a pair of Rachel Riley dungarees at his first ever official engagement in New Zealand in 2014, and some of the other Royal children have followed suit.
Rachel believes in classic quality with a contemporary twist to keep styles relevant for today. “I love soft, durable fabrics so our clothes are built to last and can be worn by many children, over and over. That is the very essence of sustainability – reduce, reuse, recycle!” she explains.
“We first met with the lovely Little Knights team at the Baby Show in London pre-Covid, and we knew straight away that they would be great partners! Their knowledge and expertise for such a family-friendly product is unparalleled. They’re UK-based, too, manufacturing in small batches to order in their facility in the rolling hills of the Midlands. We share so many traditional family values and as we have been extending our range into kids and baby bedding and more nursery accessories, this is a dream collaboration!”
A beautiful collection
Rachel has chosen 10 exclusive pastel colours to be the foundation of the new collection.
“We started out with 40 options, so we had to do some serious editing!” she says. “I love using colour when I design our clothing collections, and we know from our more than 25 years of experience which colours are most popular. I also love ‘matchy-matchy’ so I wanted to make sure we had the perfect pale, sugary pink for the My Little Princess range and the most handsome pale baby blue for My Little Prince! Colour makes me happy, so it was easy for me to select the perfect assortment. I also wanted to ensure that even the neutrals such as white, ivory, grey were the best versions, uplifting and joyous. I think the Little Knight team were a bit surprised when I asked them to match to fabric and yarn swatches!
“I love all the new colours so much that asking me to pick my favourite is a bit like asking me if I have a favourite child! They are all perfect in my opinion and I could never choose as they are all so different. However, I think that Mint Milkshake is the perfect shade of soft green, suitable for a nursery or kitchen as well being a soft, calming colour for boys and girls. I also like Macaroon as it is such a subtle shade and would look beautiful in both sunlight and shade. I can talk endlessly about colour and could enthuse about each of them. Even our Snow Angel is so useful and the perfect background for other fun decorations.”
Little Knights’ VOC-free formulation means it’s more eco-friendly and better for anyone with allergies – in fact, it’s ideal for all the family including pets, something that strongly appealed to Rachel. She believes that the Little Knights collaboration will get her new direction into homewares off to a flying start.
“Watch this space!” she laughs. “We’ve already launched a beautiful collection of baby bedding and there are plans ahead for adding additional homewares. We think our prints lend themselves equally to apparel and homeware, and we would love to offer a range for the whole nursery. Today’s parents (and grandparents) are so busy they love our offering of a ‘one-stop-shop’! Offering home delivery is also key as nowadays no-one wants to spend precious time searching for the perfect paint colour when they can shop online and have it delivered.”
